Our Mission

WLO Mission

Down the street from Eight Elements West, on the beach where WLO practices Mindfulness training.

To provide educational and life-changing experiences for combat veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars who are battling the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and who are motivated to learn to Live On.  Our goal is to provide a holistic, whole-person clinical treatment plan to each veteran to help them heal through body, mind, heart and spirit.  We are dedicated to helping combat veterans realize and learn about their innate ability to heal in order to live healthy and fruitful lives.  Our program is rooted in nature and recognizes the importance of relationship through the establishment of a new, and safe community to belong to. Opportunities are then afforded to veterans to learn, grow and nurture other veterans.

Our Vision

Warriors Live On envisions United States veterans realizing their body’s fullest potential to authentically heal physically, emotionally, and spiritually from any suffering experienced in combat and in the military; there is life, love and freedom after War.

Our Objectives

1. Symptom Reduction: reduction of depression, anxiety, PTSD
2. Systems Repair: reintegration into family and community
3. Wholeness: enhance connection to inner well-being, sense of purpose
4. Mentorship: scholarships for continued reintegration and life happiness
5. Prescription Medication: reduction of prescription treatments

Our Values

WLO’s actions are guided by four core values.

1. Compassion: Sensitivity and responsiveness to persons in need
2. Empathy: Culture of openness and sharing of feelings with one another
3. Stewardship: Respectful use of all natural, human and financial resources
4. Body-Mind-Spirit: Acknowledging that all three of these components are equally as important when assessing one’s health

Our Location

Warriors Live On conducts programs in partnership with various community groups, individuals and organizations dedicated to working collaboratively to heal veterans.  Our main headquarters is housed at Eight Elements West in La Jolla.

At Eight Elements West (8EW), veterans can practice therapeutic modalities such as yoga, acupuncture and Chinese herbology, craniosacral therapy, Organic Intelligence (OI), Somatic Experiencing (SE), and much more. Comfortable, light and airy, with skylights and large window views of Mt. Soledad, 8EW is also located two blocks from beautiful WindSea beach. We encourage Veterans to take advantage of the healing aspects of nature, and we’ll head down for OI/SE sessions intermittently.

Through our partnership with Eight Elements West Institute for Somatic Education and Integrative Wellness we are able to deliver a multitude of experiences that help the Combat Veteran heal from the consequences of War.

Warriors Live On believes in the holistic healing of trauma. We believe in practices that integrate body, mind and spirit. In addition to some common medical practices that address the acute mental health symptoms of battlefield trauma, warriors need the ongoing support of an understanding community. As Warriors move through and heal symptoms they learn to Live On again in a more integrated and intentional way.

We utilize strength-based teaching methods for the body, relaxation methods, mindfulness, and also adventure-based group therapy methodologies to build self-efficacy, coping skills, relationship-building and healthy living skills. Much of our work integrates mind and body, and, eventually, spiritual connections are made, as warriors living beyond trauma find deeper inspiration within. Although we are not a religious-based organization, many of our programs allude to the spiritual, where we find kindness towards our human fellowship.

“More fundamental than religion is our basic human spirituality. We have a basic human disposition towards love, kindness and affection, irrespective of whether we have a religious framework or not. When we nurture this most basic human resource—when we set about cultivating those basic inner values which we all appreciate in others, then we start to live spiritually.” —Dalai Lama

Warriors Live On strives to provide educational programs that nurture these most basic human resources in settings that are healing in nature, eco-friendly, community-building, and life-changing. In essence, we create cooperative living experiences wherein combat veterans learn from each other, heal with each other, and empower each other to Live On.
