From May 25 to May 28 combat veterans with Warriors Live On went on a five day nature trek in the mountains of Southern California. These nature excursions are an important part of WLO’s integrative approach to overcoming trauma and offer some of the most powerful and healing moments experienced by all involved. Below are some thoughts and images of the trip shared by WLO Founder Eva Belanger.
“I wanted to share with you in regards to our trip last weekend to Big Bear with Veterans. I am still humbled and awestruck by the open hearts and healing that we all experienced outdoors; all of us and together. Nature brought us together to experience ourselves in a new way. We oriented to the changing of scenery, changing of elements, changing of the four directions, North, South, East and West. We journeyed together to find our new understanding of ourselves..and I am so proud of the growth I witnessed in others and, as always, myself. It is truly my honor and joy of my heart to do this work outdoors. Something supernatural happens when we are out there together. It’s one of the most beautiful experiences I get to have in my life and it will continue to nurture my heart and soul in a way that nothing else can. Thanks to each of you that WLO is here, that I can be with our Veteran men and women out there. Each of you make it possible..and I thank you.
Andrea put it so so well in sharing, with tears in her eyes, once your eyes have seen, there is no way to go back. Once we experience what we do together there is no returning to the old. Only our new way forward.
AND, having Bob Speck, Co-founder of WLO here with us was an incredible gift. I’m not sure I can ever run these without him again. His presence is palpable and makes a huge difference in the lives of our peeps. Deep gratitude for him flying out and “BE”ing with us. What an incredible human being. Gratitude.”
